Lunchtime Live – January 2011

November 29, 2010

Every Wednesday lunchtime from 1.00 – 2.00 pm, Saint Stephen’s offers time-out from a busy day with a beautiful (free) concert.

The music programme is coordinated by jazz musician, David Mowat.

Wed 26 Jan – Ben Groeneveld and Adam Biggs

“Jazz washes away the dust of everyday life” Art Blakey

Double bass player, Ben Groenevelt, has over 30 years experience, including in jazz and orchestral work. A soloist studying with one of the UK’s leading exponents, David Heyes, he is accompanied by pianist and educator, Adam Biggs.

Their music includes pieces from the double bass solo repertoire, a selection from their CD of jazz arrangements of church hymns and original compositions.

Earlier this month:

Wed 5 Jan – Keith Hyett classical guitar

Keith Hyett composed and played with top 80s bands before moving from electric to acoustic guitar. He’s made several albums, played in all kinds of venues and solo at festivals, including Kings Lynn, Cheltenham and Sidmouth. Keith Hyett is inspired by the power of nature and landscape, not least the open skies of the Severn estuary where he lives.

Wed 12 Jan – Royal Court Players

Last time their startling set included baroque mandolin pieces, an ecstatic double bass solo and a sublime violin tune – so expect the unexpected from the masters of baroque music. Saint Stephen’s is honoured that the Royal Court Players choose to play here regularly.

Wed 19 Jan – The Great American Songbook -Laura Coyne and Daniel Curtis

From 1940s Broadway to the West End, Laura Coyne and Daniel Curtis perform Irving Berlin, Ivor Novello, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Claude-Michel Schönberg. Between them they have made several television and radio appearances including Songs Of Praise and BBC Radio 3.

Thanks to Minstrel the early music ensemble based in Croatia for the image of the Baroque minstrel.
