Listen to the authors of Crossing Qalandiya – and each other
As part of its autumn 2010 Slavery and Reconciliation programme, Saint Stephen’s invites people to listen to the authors, Shireen Anabtawi, Palestinian from Ramallah, and Daniela Norris, Israeli from Tel Aviv.
The two authors talk about the frank correspondence that led to their recently published book, Crossing Qalandiya.
Saint Stephen’s Reconciliation Laboratory invites people to listen to each other in a climate of honesty and trust. The aim is to create a safe forum so people can hear each other.
“It’s a laboratory of hope with trust in the chance of something new emerging,” says Saint Stephen’s musical director and facilitator, David Mowat, who worked in the West Bank with the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI) in 2006.
David Mowat adds: ”Talks between Israel and Palestinian leaders alone cannot lead to peace: civil society has to be involved. Doing nothing, as fear and suffering grow is not an option. What can we do?”
With live music from Tony BenAbu, the oud/derabuka player.
Ticket information: £4.00 on the door
The authors’ profits will be donated to Children of Peace, the charity helping Israeli and Palestinian children.
This event is part of Saint Stephen’s Slavery and Reconciliation programme for autumn 2010 is supported by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund
