Saint Stephen’s Movement Meditation with dancer and choreographer, Judith Jarvis, (pictured above) now offers bespoke classes – please see contact details below.
Dance is missing from Christian tradition, yet a way to feel in the flow and connect with Creation. Movement Meditation workshops in the church aim to redress this imbalance.
Come for an hour of contemporary-based guided improvisation work, interspersed with postures designed to relax, strengthen as well as create a sense of calm alertness. The movement is inspired by the Bible and Judeo-Christianity.
Wear comfortable clothes and be prepared to move.
The cost for each one-hour Tuesday session (1.00 – 2.00 pm): £5.00

Judith Jarvis of Gyroscopic
Trained at the Laban Centre, London, with a BA Hons in Performing Arts, Judith Jarvis of Gyroscopic explains more about her unique approach to dance.
“I call this new system, Movement Meditation,” she says. “It combines guided imagery such as imagining moving through water with forms similar to yoga asanas,” she says.
This video shows a workshop performance with Kathleen Downie and Judith Jarvis Saint Stephen’s church, during Bristol Doors Open Day in September.
Judith Jarvis aims to make the workshops accessible to all. As a late starter in dance, she understands how dance can be intimidating.
“I teach with the belief that outstanding results can be achieved by dancers of all ages and levels. I try and encourage people to enjoy themselves and work together,” she says. “And aim for improvement over perfection.”
Judith Jarvis works with every range of expertise, from trained professionals and those with less movement-experience. She also provides tailor-made workshops, both for one-to-one classes and small groups.
